What we deliver.
Tinted glass does two jobs at once: it reduces glare, and it tells the space apart from the one next to it. We fabricate tinted balustrades in smoked, bronze, and grey - the three tint families that cover most apartment balcony, feature-wall, and stair-core briefs - with toughened laminated safety glass to BS 6180 and PVD-matched stainless posts where the finish has to read across glass and metal.
Apartment developers use tinted systems on south-facing balconies where plain clear bakes the living room. Architects specify tint on feature stair cores where a clear balustrade would fight the wall treatment. Both start with the same fabrication discipline at our Rotherham workshop and the same installation team that fitted the Botree Hotel and the Foot Asylum glazed voids.

Smoked, bronze, and grey tinted range
Three tint families to match architect spec or warm up a cool-lit space. Smoked softens the view and cuts glare; bronze warms north-facing stair cores; grey sits cleanly against modern matt-grey architectural palettes. All toughened laminated, all to BS 6180 barrier loading.
Three mounting systems
Frameless for minimum visual interruption, semi-frameless where the spec needs a top rail, or post-mounted in 304/316 stainless (brushed, mirror-polished, or PVD-coated in brass, bronze, or copper). You can also choose oak and glass balustrade for a more traditional look. Choice usually comes down to substrate, loading, and whether the architect wants metal on show.
BS 6180, 5395, 8300 compliance
Barrier loading per BS 6180, stair geometry per BS 5395, accessibility per BS 8300 where a Part M-compliant handrail geometry is in scope. Clause references arrive with the UKCA handover pack.
Metal finishes matched at detailing stage
If the stair uses bronze-tint glass, the posts can be PVD-coated bronze - same finish family, detailed and fabricated in the same workshop that dimensioned the glass. That finish match is difficult to achieve when glass and posts come from different suppliers.

Questions clients ask us.
Smoked is the neutral mid-tone - reduces glare without shifting colour temperature. Bronze warms the light coming through - useful on north-facing stair cores that feel cold in daylight. Grey is the architect-spec choice for matt-grey or concrete palettes where warm tones would fight the finish. All three ship as toughened laminated safety glass.
Yes - the tint affects the glass, not the handrail geometry. Part M compliance comes from BS 8300 handrail profile, height, and extension rules, which apply to the metal handrail section, not the glass infill. We detail Part M compliance on request and cross-reference in the handover pack.
Depends on the tint density. Typical light-transmission values sit around 60-75% for the lighter grey and smoked grades, 40-55% for bronze, and can drop further on custom densities. We share the light-transmission spec sheet at quote stage so the architect can balance privacy against daylight modelling for the space.
