Transfer Beams & Transfer Structures
The heavy steel that picks up loads where a column cannot continue. We detail, fabricate and install transfer beams and transfer structures to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2.

Carrying the load where a column cannot.
A transfer structure carries the load from the structure above across a space where a column cannot come down: over a basement, an entrance, a large opening or a change of grid between floors. These are high-load, engineering-led members, often deep fabricated girders or plated beams, and they have to be made and installed with real precision. We fabricate transfer beams and transfer structures to your engineer's design under BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, and install them with our own teams, so the most heavily loaded steel in the building is in one pair of hands from drawing to handover.

Transfer beams, plate girders and column-removal steelwork, fabricated for high loads and installed by our own teams.
Transfer beams
Deep universal beams and PFCs used to carry loads across an opening where a column is removed or omitted.
Fabricated plate girders
Plated girders welded up to carry loads a rolled section cannot, for long spans and heavy point loads.
Column-removal steelwork
The beams, needles and props that let a column be taken out of an existing structure safely.
Support and bearing details
Bearing details, stiffeners and connections that spread the transferred load into the structure below.
Heavy connections
The bolted and welded connections that a highly loaded transfer member depends on, fabricated to the same standard as the beam.
When a column has to stop, the transfer structure takes the strain.
Transfer steel carries the loads of everything above it, so the fabrication tolerance, the welding and the installation all have to be right. We fabricate deep girders and plated transfer members to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, welded by coded welders, and install with our own teams, with full traceability on the members that matter most.

Why transfer steel is a job for specialists.
It carries everything above it, so the fabrication and the welding have to be right.
About UIS-
01
Built for heavy loads
We fabricate deep and plated members for the high loads a transfer structure carries, not just standard rolled beams.
-
02
Coded welding on the members that matter
Transfer steel is welded by coded welders to BS EN ISO 9606, with the procedures and records supplied.
-
03
BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, UKCA marked
Fabricated to the execution class your engineer specifies, with the declaration of performance to match.
-
04
Fabricate and install with our own teams
The steel that carries the building is installed by the same firm that fabricated it, not handed to a subcontractor.
"I've worked with UIS for several years on some high profile and very complex projects. Their attitude and work ethic are second to none - providing high quality services and products which are delivered safely and on time every time. Overall they are a pleasure to do business with and wouldn't hesitate recommending UIS for any steelwork or metalwork packages."
Questions clients ask us.
It is the steel that carries the load from the structure above across a point where a column cannot continue, for example over a basement, an entrance or a large opening. It is usually a deep or plated beam designed for high loads.
Where your structural engineer confirms it is feasible, we fabricate and install the transfer beam, needles and propping needed to take a column out of an existing structure and carry its load safely.
Yes. Where a rolled section will not carry the load or span, we fabricate welded plate girders to your engineer's design.
