About this service

The steel that keeps a frame standing square.

A steel frame does not just carry vertical load; it has to stay stable and square against wind and sway. That job falls to the bracing: cross-bracing, wind posts, portalisation of openings and the ties and struts that hold a frame together. We fabricate and install stability steelwork to your engineer's design under BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, whether it is bracing a new frame or portalising an opening in an existing one, so the part of the structure that resists the wind is made and fitted properly.

What we make

The steel that keeps a frame square.

Cross-bracing, wind posts and portalisation, fabricated to your engineer's design and installed by our own teams.

01

Cross-bracing and ties

Diagonal bracing, ties and struts that hold a frame square against wind and sway.

02

Wind posts

Wind posts that support and stiffen walls and cladding against wind load.

03

Portalisation

Moment frames and goal-post frames formed where bracing cannot go, so an opening can be left clear.

04

Bracing to existing frames

Added bracing and stiffening where an existing structure needs strengthening or an opening is being formed.

05

Connections and gussets

The gusset plates and connections that make bracing work, fabricated to the same standard as the frame.

Why UIS

Bracing is what keeps the frame standing when the wind blows.

Stability steel is easy to underestimate and hard to retrofit, so it pays to get the bracing, wind posts and portalisation fabricated and installed right. We work to your engineer's design under BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2 and install with our own teams, keeping the frame stable as it is erected and after.

Why choose UIS

Why stability steel is worth getting right.

Bracing is hard to retrofit, so it pays to fabricate and fit it properly first time.

    Fabricated to your engineer's design

We detail and fabricate bracing, wind posts and moment frames from your engineer's design, so the stability system is made exactly as specified.

  • 02

    Coded welding, traceable

Bracing and gusset welds are made by coded welders to BS EN ISO 9606, with the records supplied.

  • 03

BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, UKCA marked

Fabricated to the execution class your engineer specifies, with the declaration of performance.

Common questions

Questions clients ask us.

Bracing keeps a steel frame stable and square against wind and sway. It includes cross-bracing, ties, wind posts and moment frames, and it works alongside the beams and columns that carry vertical load.

It is forming a moment or goal-post frame where diagonal bracing cannot be used, for example around a large opening, so the frame stays stable without a brace in the way.

Yes. We survey the existing frame, then fabricate and install added bracing, wind posts or moment frames where a structure needs strengthening or an opening is being formed.
