Columns and posts take every load in the frame and carry it safely to the ground, so they have to be fabricated accurately and connected properly. We work from your structural engineer's design to detail, fabricate and install universal columns, structural hollow-section posts, and the baseplates, cap plates and splices that go with them. Everything is made in our own workshop to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, UKCA marked, and erected by our own teams, so the steel that holds your building up is the responsibility of one firm from drawing to handover.

Universal columns
UC sections cut, drilled and fabricated to your engineer's schedule, with the cap and base connections ready to bolt up on site.
Hollow-section posts
SHS, RHS and CHS posts for exposed and lighter structures, fabricated where a clean section is wanted over an open flange.
Baseplates and grillages
Column baseplates and load-spreading grillages, stiffened to suit the load and drilled for the holding-down bolts.
Splices and cap plates
Column splices, cap plates and bearing details for multi-lift frames, detailed so the erection sequence stays simple.
Connection into the frame
Beam-to-column connections, cleats and stiffeners fabricated so the columns tie cleanly into the beams around them.

Columns set out the whole frame, so accuracy at the baseplate and the splice is what keeps a build on programme. We fabricate to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, mark every member for a clear erection sequence, and install with our own teams, backed by the drawings and the declaration of performance your building control officer expects.

Columns are cut, drilled and welded on our own lines, so setting-out and tolerances stay under our control from the first member to the last.

Structural welds are made by welders tested to BS EN ISO 9606, with the records handed over so the frame is signed off without a query.

We detail from your engineer's design, fabricate, then erect with our own teams, so the frame goes up in the sequence we drew it.

Yes. We fabricate the baseplates, stiffened to suit the load, and provide the holding-down bolt assemblies with setting-out templates for the groundworks team.
