What we deliver.
Steel erection is only as reliable as the chain from fabrication to lift plan to site crew. We manage all three. Our installation teams write their own lift plans through our in-house Appointed Person, and the fabrication team is on the phone during erection because it's the same company that drew the package. Neil Hughes founded UIS in 1994 as an installation business - fabrication came later - and that heritage means every weld decision, detailing choice, and material spec is made with site conditions and lifting sequence in mind. As an example, we lifted the 40-tonne walkway at a tight-access Leeds site by tower crane over three days, installed the night-shift plant deck inside an operational Oban supermarket, and built the access stairway around an embankment at Thermo Fisher Horsham - projects we're really proud of.

CSCS site teams
Our installation crews are led by an SSSTS supervisor on every project, with CSCS, PASMA, IPAF, and first aid certification across the workforce. The person arriving at your site has read the same drawings the welder was working from and knows who to call if a connection needs attention.
In-house Appointed Person for lifting
Every UIS erection goes through our own Appointed Person for lift plan sign-off. The AP who signed off the Leeds 40-tonne tower-crane lift knows the fabrication, the detailing, and the site constraints because it's the same company.
Live-environment and out-of-hours capability
Night-shift installation inside operational retail (Oban supermarket plant deck), live retail fit-out (Foot Asylum Oxford Street), live hospitality (Botree Hotel), laboratory refurbishment (Thermo Fisher Horsham). Phased access, noise limits, shutdown windows, and fire-watch provision planned at briefing - not improvised on arrival.
Site welding discipline when needed
Prefabrication-first is the default - every joint pre-welded in the workshop is one fewer hot-works permit on your floor. Where site welding is required, full RAMS, hot-work permits, and fire watches are issued as standard. Coded welders to BS EN ISO 9606 travel with the erection crew.

Questions clients ask us.
Both. Install-only is available where you already have fabricated steel from another supplier and need a competent erection crew - we'll review the fabrication package, produce lift plans and method statements, and erect to programme. Supply-and-install is the standard offer and reduces the coordination risk that causes most steel packages to slip programme.
Our in-house Appointed Person - not the crane-hire contact and not a third-party lifting consultant. The same AP wrote the plan for the 40-tonne tower-crane lift through tight Leeds access and the night-shift Oban plant deck. Lift plans include sequence, rigging, exclusion zones, and weather contingencies - reviewed with the site manager before mobilisation.
Yes - standard practice for our crews. Night shifts at Oban supermarket plant deck, live retail fit-out at Foot Asylum Oxford Street, live hospitality at the Botree Hotel, live laboratory at Thermo Fisher Horsham. Phased-access, out-of-hours, and fire-watch-heavy installations are planned at briefing stage with the facilities team, not improvised by the crew on arrival.
SSSTS supervision on every project. CSCS site-safety cards across the workforce. PASMA mobile-tower and IPAF MEWP certification for operatives working at height. First-aid-qualified personnel in every crew. Coded welders individually qualified to BS EN ISO 9606 travelling with the erection team where site welding is in scope.
