Universal Industrial Services is a structural steel contractor designing, fabricating, and installing steelwork for main contractors, architects, and self-builders across the UK.
UIS keeps every stage in-house with directly employed site teams - not a split fabricator-and-erector supply chain.
Founded in 1994 and run from our South Yorkshire base by the founder's sons Kev and Jake with nephew Nick, UIS holds BS EN 1090 EC2, ISO 9001, UKCA, CHAS Elite, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine Gold, and Cyber Essentials.
Published insurance is £10 million public liability and £10 million employers' liability, with a 12-month defect liability period on all steelwork.

One accountable team from design to aftercare
Design, detailing, manufacture, fabrication, installation, and aftercare in-house. That closes the coordination gap between fabricator and erector that most procurement leads have seen turn into scope-creep variations.
Installation-led detailing, not workshop-first
Our heritage is installation. We detail every package around real site access, lift planning, sequencing, and bolt-up - using Tekla, BIM, FEA, and 3D site scans. The same firm that erects the steel also drew it, so fabrication decisions don't land you with an extra hot-works permit.

CSCS-carded operatives, SSSTS supervisors on every project, PASMA and IPAF trained site teams, and coded welders qualified to BS EN ISO 9606. BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2 is the company-level fabrication standard; BS EN ISO 9606 is the individual welder-approval standard. Both appear at handover.

Questions clients ask us.
Yes. Every UIS package covers design, detailing, fabrication, installation, and aftercare, with our own installation teams on site. That is the core of how we operate, and it is why main-contractor procurement leads put us on the list for jobs where a split fabricator-and-erector package would create coordination risk.
Small domestic enquiries get a same-day quotation. Large-scale commercial packages take 1 to 2 weeks because we price against drawings and a material take-off. If we need information that's not on the drawings yet, you'll hear from us before the deadline, not afterwards.
BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2, ISO 9001, UKCA, CHAS Elite, Alcumus SafeContractor, ConstructionLine Gold, and Cyber Essentials. Certificates and the accreditations page are available on request, and our ConstructionLine Gold and CHAS Elite statuses are independently verifiable on those schemes' own directories.
A 12-month defect liability period applies on all steelwork. If something is not right during the first year after practical completion, the same team that delivered the package comes back and sorts it, not a subcontracted third party that was never on the programme.
Our average throughput is around 100 tonnes per month, which places us at the mid-range of UK structural steelwork contractors rather than at the 15,000-tonne-project tier. We're comfortable with packages up to roughly a month's throughput; larger programmes need a phased conversation. If the package sits outside our sensible scope, we'll tell you that on the quote rather than try to take it on.
Yes - UK-wide from a single base in South Yorkshire. Our directly employed crews have installed from Scotland to central London with no regional office hand-offs in between.
